Institure of Religion

Institute of Religion: Idaho Falls

The Institute of Religion in Idaho Falls was desperate. The amount of young adults coming to class was on a steady decline and they had no idea how to stop it. That is why they came to my Introduction to Advertising class and asked if they could be our client. Our final project for the class was to group ourselves into imaginary ad agencies and apply all that we had learned in order fix our client's problem.

The original logo was hideous, and I as the agency Art Director was not going to go anywhere without first creating a more professional identity for our client. I then created this logo for them in hopes to maintain the association between the Angel Moroni in the original logo and the name: 'Institute of Religion'. This explains why the uppercase 'I' is the figure of the Angle Moroni.

Print Advertising

This 11 X 17 poster is one of three other variations and all of them were created in my Introduction to Advertising course. We, Exalted Ads, included this poster and 107 other print materials as part the advertising plan we gave our client, the Institute of Religion in Idaho Falls

The poster was designed to be used for advertising a Spring Bubble Bash that the client was going to host. After speaking with the client, they assured us that they could get young adults to attend their activities but the challenge was to get them to go to class. So we devised a three part advertising strategy to solve this problem.

FIRST: we would create posters and other print materials such as above to promote the attendance of the Bubble Bash.

SECOND: now that young adults are informed, when the typical 1,000 plus students attend, we designed free standing banners to be placed among the dancing students. This is done to motivate them to attend the Institute of Religion in Idaho Falls and find answers to life's questions.

THIRD: we would design generic, wide target advertising materials to be distributed among the 9 different Stakes in the area. This is done in order to secure the presence of the new Institute of Religion brand.

BYU – Idaho Scroll Photography

This and all of the photos on shanecarlsondesign.com where taken by me for BYU–Idaho's campus newspaper, the Scroll. I~Comm Student Media is a BYU–Idaho organization run by students to design, write and print the campus newspaper. They also create custom webpages for real clients, design print ads, develop brands, run PR campaigns and pretty much anything a client is in need of.

I have been a photographer for I~Comm Student Media for 5 consecutive semesters. I love the opportunities I have to capture different point-of-views for Scroll readers to enjoy.
